How do I use the Email Services of the sonance network and which services are those

Previous page:
How do I handle my Web Space and register own Domains ?

In principle we offer 4 different email services:

  1. Email addresses ( POP and IMAP email addresses )
  2. Email Alias ( small email distributors lists & additional addresses )
  3. Email Newsletters and Work group lists with archiving.
  4. Email ( and DNS ) Backup Mail server.

the user names on the new system consist of user names and Domain names together, and are connected by means of underlines e.g. info_yourdomain_org and/or are youruser_sonance_net

1. Simple email addresses

The Mails can be called up by means of:

As an IMAP/POP – Mail Client Program We recommend Mozilla’s Thunderbird

Initially, each new domain gets ONE email address to which ALL email on this domain will be set to. (CATCH-ALL function)
I.e. the address info@yourdomain.org gets ALL email that contain your domain name, e.g. also mails sent to: xyz@yourdomain.org.

NOTE: The CATCH-ALL function is Spam friendly. Try from the beginning on to define individual email addresses for your project, in order to be able to deactivate the CATCH -ALL function as soon as possible!

You also receive a Mandatory Mail alias as follows: yourdomain@sonance.net , which you are always welcomed to use.

Additional email addresses, small mail distributors, alias and changes of password will be able to be administered in the future on the new system via Web interface.

A new tool is also intended for large email lists such as news distributors and discussion lists, which permits an independent construction and administration of large distributors and email archives.

see https://manege.sonance.net/wws/

Specifications to these two points follow after completion of the user interfaces.

What is the difference between POP and IMAP ?

Hint for IMAP and WEBMAIL-User

If you want to create folders or subfolders to sort your mails on the imap-storage ALWAYS do create them INSIDE the INBOX (i.e. Create a Folder called “Sent” and configure you email-client-programm or webmail tool to save mails you send out inside the just created IMAP.INBOX.Sent folder.)

WEBMAIL via http

Our WEBMAIL http://sonance.net/mail/ is a IMAP MAIL CLIENT PROGRAM. Thus supports also the creation of IMAP folders and the re-sorting of mails into them.
(also see IMAP description on this section: What is the difference between POP and IMAP ? )

SONMAIL offers further work – group functions, which makes it possible for users to use data – such as addresses and calendars – together with other users of the SONMAIL program. You can find further information about SONMAIL in the program itself under “Help”.

At the moment, an upgrade of the web mail functionality and a transposition to the new mail server are likewise in preparation.

The first BETA TESTS of the new web collaborations and communication tools are set under http://sonance.net/mail2/ . (Software Horde )

Further important notice: In the NEW WEBMAIL System you must change your “Default Identity”. The sending email address must correspond to your email address (e.g. instead of: info_yourdomain_org@sonance.net as return address, you must register info@yourdomain.org) we still have this problem to solve in the web-mail system.*
